This has been about two weeks in the making....the blog I mean..... Nicholas caught RIGHT ON to the whole potty thing. Let me explain how it all happened.
The weekend we got home from Auntie and Uncle J's wedding we went to church and the kids were totally out of it and were whinny and clingy. When we got home I thought we should try and get Nicholas down for a nap (he gave those up months ago) because he was just tired.
Instead he went out by the pool with Matt. He then suggested he put on swim trunks and eat Popsicles. It is still pretty warm here, the water is chilly but he likes to splash. I put the trunks on minus pull-ups. He peed on himself once. I had the potty out there just in case. He played and started throwing the potty around so I decided to put everything away. I sat down to answer emails and Matt yelled, "Mama we need the POTTY!" I ran as fast as I could to the bathroom got the potty and then to the lanai. He pulled the shorts down and sat on the potty. I know this doesn't sound like such a big deal.....BUT IT IS! Nicholas was hysterical every time we would try and sit on the potty. I had charts and stickers and gummy bears and chocolate chips......nothing would get him to sit, let alone pee! (Back to the sitting on the potty of his own free will.) He seemed a little uneasy so I got the toy inserts from the Sunday paper and we started looking and talking about what we saw. He looked up at me and smiled and whispered in his sweet little voice, "Mama potty is coming out!" He just beamed! He sat for a while and more came out. He was so excited and proud of himself. He did it FOUR times in a row! I promised him that we could go to the Fire Truck Park if he went pee in his potty, so we went and he sort of fizzled out of using the potty for the rest of the day. The next few days he went like a champ. He wore a pull-up in the car and at school. He had few accidents when we were outside playing and has flashed his back side to the neighbors several times! I reminded him, but he knew when needed to go and got upset if I made him sit and he didn't have to go. A week after he first started he pooped on the potty......while Matt and I were at church and Mimie and Poppie were here. He wore big boy undies to school all last week. He has checked out the public restrooms in several places with success! He is so responsible and really knows when he has to go. He is so excited about it and yells out, "I gotta go potty!' as he is running in the bathroom. I am so proud of him.....he is proud of himself too. He likes to give high fives when he is done washing his hands. He has even dumped the pee into the toilet a few times on his own....what a BIG BOY!
